Job summary

The New York Foundling seeks a Direct Support Professional to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to live fulfilling lives. You will provide personalized support and help with daily living activities, including medication administration and transportation.

You will document progress, participate in team care planning, and advocate for the rights and choices of those served, under OPWDD and organizational policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid NY/NJ/CT/PA Driver’s License with 6 months of experience and 6 or less points.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; patience and empathy.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred; additional training in developmental disabilities, behavior management, or healthcare a plus.
• Commitment to compassionate care and promoting dignity and respect.
• Ability to respond to changing needs and environments with flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor plans of care and ensure documentation of progress and health status.
• Provide direct care including daily living activities, medication administration, and transportation.
• Facilitate community outings and social activities to promote inclusion and independence.
• Maintain accurate records and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop care plans.
• Advocate for the rights and preferences of individuals with developmental disabilities.
