Job summary

Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking a on-campus dining operations team member to wash, prep, and serve foods while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and customer service. This role supports a fast-paced food service environment and reports to the campus dining leadership.

The position offers shift flexibility during academic breaks, generous benefits, and opportunities for growth within a university setting.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED plus 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in handling food safety/sanitation procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Washes and prepares various foods for cooking or serving.
  • Follows all established quality control, portioning, and customer service standards.
  • Provides excellent service in a friendly, sincere, and courteous manner.
  • Cleans dishware, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans using dishwashers or by hand.
  • Ensures proper sorting and storage of dishware, flatware, trays, utensils, or cooking equipment.
  • Receives and stores supplies.
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Fluctuates based on event need. Work schedule may need to fluctuate based on University‑wide events, and academic breaks.

  • Knowledge of food service production and service techniques and standards
  • Knowledge of food sanitation and safety standards and protocols

  • Skill in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to obtain food safety/sanitation certifications required of the position
Minimum Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED 3 years of related experience

Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Job Level Overview

Operations, Administrative, Service, or Technical Support Level 3 - Senior level role with considerable knowledge and skills. Performs complex tasks and project work. Work is typically not routine and requires troubleshooting and analysis. Mentors or guides less experienced staff.
