Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Specialist, Laboratory Automation / Controls Engineer to join our Lab Automation team.

You will build automated, connected laboratories using SCADA systems and orchestration platforms to integrate equipment, workflows and data. The ideal candidate has a BS in Engineering and 2+ years in automation for biopharma, plus experience with Ignition or similar SCADA and scripting.

Qualifications

BS in Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Experience developing/configuring/testing SCADA or orchestration software (Ignition, DeltaV, WinCC OA).
Experience scripting/programming with version control and best practices.
Ability to collaborate effectively on cross‑functional teams and deliver automation solutions.

Responsibilities

Build the digital backbone of automated laboratories using SCADA components that connect equipment, workflows and data.
Translate scientific workflows into scalable systems by partnering with researchers and engineers.
Develop components across the OT platform stack including equipment modules, UIs and orchestration logic.
Troubleshoot integration challenges across software, automation and lab workflows.
Connect laboratory equipment, automation platforms and data systems within end‑to‑end workflows.
Improve platform capabilities by addressing issues and implementing enhancements.
