Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Senior Specialist to design, build, and support IT/OT infrastructure for pilot plant and GMP manufacturing.

You will work on DeltaV, PLCs, HMI/SCADA, MES, and PI Historian within a regulated setting, coordinating with scientists and engineers to improve reliability and efficiency. The role requires strong collaboration across IT, automation, cybersecurity, and quality teams, with hybrid work options and potential travel to other sites.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in upstream manufacturing systems, pilot plant automation, or manufacturing automation platforms.
• 4+ years with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMI, SCADA, OT cybersecurity and IT/OT integration.
• 4+ years with VMware, DeltaV, PI Historian, MES, and regulated computer system support.
• Experience with industrial networking, switches, VLANs, firewalls, and AD.
• Experience supporting Ignition, MES, SAP, HMI, PLC, SCADA, DCS and related hardware.

Responsibilities

• Optimize IT/OT infrastructure for plant automation and process control.
• Lead or support scoping, requirements, and delivery of automation infrastructure solutions.
• Provide technical support including troubleshooting, incident resolution, and RCA.
• Collaborate with researchers, automation engineers, infrastructure teams, and vendors.
• Create and maintain IT/OT service architecture diagrams and runbooks.
