Job summary
Merck & Co. in Rahway, NJ, is seeking a Specialist, Laboratory Automation / Controls Engineer to join the Lab Automation team. You will help build automated and connected laboratories using SCADA systems and orchestration platforms, integrating equipment, workflows, and data.
You will collaborate with automation, digital engineering, and IT, translate scientific workflows into scalable systems, and contribute to training materials and reusable components to support long-term scalability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor-level engineer with relevant experience in lab automation and IT
Responsibilities
- Build the digital backbone of automated laboratories connecting equipment, workflows and data
- Translate scientific workflows into scalable systems through collaboration with researchers and engineers
- Develop components across the OT platform stack including equipment modules and user interfaces
- Address integration challenges using established methodologies across software, automation and lab workflows
- Support integration of instruments, automation platforms and data systems within end-to-end digital workflows
- Improve platform capabilities with enhancements for performance, reliability and maintainability
- Contribute to training materials, documentation and development best practices
- Create reusable components for long-term scalability and reuse
- Execute assigned work packages within larger lab automation projects with senior engineers
