Everforth Apex seeks a Digital Engineer for an on-site role in San Diego to design, develop, integrate, and test VHDL-based digital designs for software-defined radio firmware.

The position requires a BS in a related STEM field with five years of VHDL experience (or MS with three years) and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Collaboration across Systems, Hardware, and Test teams is essential in a structured development environment.

Role Overview

Our organization is seeking a Digital Engineer for an on-site position. This role involves the design, development, integration, and testing of VHDL-based digital designs, with a primary focus on software-defined radio VHDL firmware codebases. The position is contingent upon program acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test VHDL-based digital designs for end-user customers.
• Work with FPGA programming development tools and environments.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Hardware, and Integration & Test.
• Operate within a waterfall or Agile software development environment.
• Analyze system concepts of operation, requirements, and design documents to resolve functional, performance, or timing issues.

Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in a related STEM field is required.

Experience: Five years of experience with a BS degree, or three years of experience with an MS degree. Significant hands-on current experience in VHDL design is necessary.

Skills: Candidates must have excellent written and communication skills and be able to work independently and within groups. A working knowledge of formal engineering development processes, VHDL design, and verification is needed.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• An Active DOD Secret clearance
• Eight or more years of professional technical experience.
• Experience with VHDL design and OSVVM verification for FPGA firmware.
• Experience with AMD/Xilinx series devices including Zynq, Kintex, Ultrascale, and Versal families.
• Experience with Communication Protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, and Ethernet.
• Experience with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools like Vivado, Quartus, and QuestaSim.
• Knowledge of FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure.
• Generation of test benches and support of formal VHDL verification.
• Experience with board or system-level debug using test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Experience translating systems requirements into programmable logic requirements, design documents, and test specifications.
• Hands-on experience with defense communications systems.
