Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a patient meal assistant to select, modify and serve meals for adult and geriatric patients in accordance with physician orders and the Brown University Health Diet Manual. Under supervision of the Patient Service Manager, you will assemble trays, verify dietary prescriptions, and communicate patient concerns to the clinical dietitian.

You will also handle daily menu labels, census and basic office tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly.
• Ability to speak clearly and politely to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients to make appropriate daily menu selections.
• Ascertain dietary preferences for new admissions and adjust menus as prescriptions change.
• Prepares, assembles and delivers patient meal trays.
• Communicates patient concerns to the clinical dietitian.
• Manages daily menu labels, diet changes, transfers and admissions; maintains census and supplies.
• Stocks nursing unit pantries with patient food.
• Maintains QA, safety, environmental and infection control per policies.
• Performs other duties, respecting age, condition and cultural needs.
