Summary
The Dietary Manager is responsible for partnering with the Dietitian to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Dietary Department. This must be in accordance with current, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility. The role includes ensuring quality nutritional services are provided daily and maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary Dietary Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dietary Department, its programs, and activities.
- Assist in developing & maintaining written job descriptions and performance evaluations for dietary personnel.
- Review policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions annually, and recommend revisions.
- Inspect storage rooms and utility closets for upkeep and supply control.
- Process diet changes and new diets from the Nursing Department.
- Review complaints and grievances, and report actions taken.
- Assist during resident discharge planning with dietary needs.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Interview residents or family members to obtain diet history and maintain records of food preferences.
- Review diet plans and menus for compliance with physician’s orders.
- Ensure dietary progress notes are descriptive and informative.
- Maintain and file menus according to policies.
- Maintain stock levels of food, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist in developing and revising food service aseptic and isolation techniques.
- Ensure cleanliness of work areas and storage.
- Review and revise care plans quarterly, as needed.
- Coordinate with the nursing staff to incorporate care plans into daily food services.
- Handle budget review, development, and control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related medical facility.
- Knowledge of dietary practices, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.
- Ability to push, pull, lift at least 25 pounds and carry it for 50 feet.
- Assist in emergency evacuations if necessary.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
