Job Summary
The Dietary Manager is responsible for partnering with the Dietitian to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Dietary Department. This includes ensuring compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and providing quality nutritional services daily while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dietary Department, its programs, and activities.
- Develop and maintain written job descriptions and performance evaluations for dietary personnel.
- Review policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions annually and recommend revisions.
- Inspect food storage, utility, and janitorial areas for upkeep and supply control.
- Process diet changes and new diets from the Nursing Department.
- Review departmental complaints and grievances, and document actions taken.
- Assist with resident discharge planning, focusing on dietary needs.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Interview residents or families to obtain diet history and maintain related records.
- Review therapeutic and regular diet plans to ensure compliance with physician’s orders.
- Ensure dietary progress notes are informative and descriptive.
- Maintain menus and ensure they are filed according to policies.
- Maintain adequate stock levels of food, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist in developing and revising food service infection control techniques.
- Keep food service areas clean and sanitary.
- Review and update care plans quarterly, ensuring they include necessary equipment and utensils.
- Ensure all dietary staff are aware of and use care plans in daily food service planning.
- Participate in budgeting, including reviewing financial transactions and assisting with budget development and control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a healthcare or related setting.
- Knowledge of dietary practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to nursing care facilities.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds, and push/pull/carry similar weights for at least 50 feet.
- May assist in emergency evacuations.
- Moderate noise level in work environment.
