Position Summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager is responsible for actively preparing meals and managing the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, preparation, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction with efficient, cost-effective management that meets and exceeds expectations. Assists in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign duties, and direct all food service department employees, with full accountability for dining services.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and that work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures related to infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation. Maintain food costs within budget and inventory control.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion.
  • Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  • Create staff schedules and make modifications with discretion, including granting time off.
  • Track attendance and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures, including rules of conduct, safety, and sanitation. Recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Evaluate performance and recommend employment changes accordingly.
  • Complete dietary QA audits quarterly.
  • Plan menus in coordination with medical staff and for special events.
  • Ensure meals meet menu and recipe specifications, are nutritious and appetizing, and are attractively presented. Provide snacks for residents with dietary needs. Supervise safe food storage and preparation.
  • Ensure excellent customer service from all employees.
  • Perform duties courteously and professionally, prioritizing resident safety and satisfaction.
  • Greet visitors warmly, including families, prospective residents, vendors, and regulators.
  • Respond appropriately to phone inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with residents' rights regulations.
  • Ensure employees attend required training and provide in-service sessions as needed.
  • Attend training sessions as directed.
