Summary

Under the supervision of Senior Clinical Dietitians and the Clinical Nutrition Director, and following departmental policies and standards, provides nutritional care to hospital patients. Responsibilities include interviewing patients and family members, reviewing health records, assessing nutritional needs, developing care plans, monitoring progress, documenting in electronic health records, and directing support personnel as needed.

Responsibilities

1. Identify nutrition-related problems using accurate data.
2. Assess medical, psychosocial, and nutritional history.
3. Evaluate anthropometric indicators and laboratory profiles.
4. Perform and reassess findings from physical examinations.
5. Gather and review food and nutrition-related histories.
6. Estimate nutrient needs based on reference data.
7. Develop and document nutrition care plans, updating as necessary.
8. Participate in discharge planning and patient education.
9. Provide nutrition education through seminars and workshops.
10. Represent Food & Nutrition Services in interdisciplinary meetings.
11. Engage in quality improvement and community programs as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or related from an accredited institution.
• Completion of ACEND-accredited supervised practice and passing the RDN exam or scheduled exam date.
• License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Rhode Island within 3 months of hire, with proof of application upon employment.
• Knowledge of nutrition principles, human physiology, and the nutrition care process.
• Strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred.

Experience

One to two years as a Clinical Dietitian preferred.

Work Environment

Intermittent sitting, standing, walking; exposure to patient care environment; may lift up to 10 pounds; travel to off-site facilities may be required.
