Position summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. This role involves preparing meals and managing the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation, in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction through efficient, cost-effective management that exceeds expectations and assists in maintaining a positive environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Supervise, assign duties, and oversee all food service department employees, maintaining full accountability for dining services.
  2. Ensure equipment maintenance and that work areas are clean, safe, and orderly.
  3. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing noncompliance promptly.
  4. Maintain food costs within budget and control inventory strictly.
  5. Exercise independent judgment and discretion in decision-making.
  6. Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  7. Schedule staff, considering requests for time off and modifications, using independent judgment.
  8. Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  9. Communicate and enforce policies regarding employee conduct, safety, sanitation, and other HR policies, including disciplinary measures.
  10. Evaluate staff performance and recommend employment adjustments as needed.
  11. Conduct quarterly dietary QA audits.
  12. Plan community and resident menus in coordination with healthcare providers and staff; organize special events as needed.
  13. Ensure meals are prepared according to menu and recipes, presented attractively, and meet nutritional standards, including special dietary needs.
  14. Ensure proper storage, defrosting, and preparation of food following safety procedures.
  15. Provide excellent customer service to residents and visitors.
  16. Perform duties courteously and professionally, prioritizing resident safety and satisfaction.
  17. Greet visitors warmly and handle phone inquiries appropriately.
  18. Ensure compliance with regulations regarding residents' rights.
  19. Ensure all staff attend required trainings and provide in-service training as needed.
  20. Attend training sessions as directed by supervisors.
