Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

The role includes working 12pm-10pm on weekdays with OT after 40 hours, and a starting pay range of $29–$40 per hour based on experience and certifications. Tools provided by the company, with benefits after probation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
• Must own a personal set of basic mechanics tools.
• Valid Driver’s License required (Class A or B CDL preferred, or willingness to obtain).
• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic/air brake systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic software and tools.
• Repair and maintain specialized waste equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, automated arms, and lift systems).
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Maintain clean and accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all OSHA and DOT safety protocols.

Safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely.

Location: 10954 Houser Drive Fredricksburg VA

Pay Rate: $29-$40/hr. More pay available based on experience, certifications, and skill level.

Hours / Shift: 12pm-10pm M-F. Immediate OT after 40hrs worked.

About the Role
