Job summary

Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) is seeking a Cytotechnologist to perform diagnostic cytologic evaluation of slides and to carry out cytopreparatory functions under general supervision.

Responsibilities include maintaining turnaround times, participating in intra-operative consultations, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. Requires ASCP certification and appropriate education details as outlined.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours in an accredited college or university with at least 14 semester hours in the biological sciences and 12 months of training in an accredited School of Cytotechnology.
• OR successful completion (prior to 1977) of at least 60 semester hours in an accredited college or university with at least 12 semester hours in science, 8 of which are in biological sciences and 12 months of training in an accredited School of Cytotechnology.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates microscopic slides from different anatomic sites; provides diagnostic cytologic interpretation and marks atypical findings for pathologist review.
• Performs cytopreparatory functions to ensure timely processing and high quality results.
• Assists in intra-operative consultations and coordinates multiple tasks to ensure efficient use of time.
• Performs quality control, follow-up studies, and preventive maintenance with documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Participates in evaluation of instrumentation, procedures, and supplies.
• Ensures quality and quantity standards per internal policies and accrediting agencies.
• Participates in continuing education and shares knowledge from seminars and workshops.
