Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory in Indiana seeks a Development Director to oversee the development agenda for the Elkhart region. You will coordinate donor relations, capital campaigns, grant writing, and special events to advance the organization's mission.

In this role you will lead and train the development team, work with corps leadership on fundraising strategies, manage media outreach, and ensure compliant, ethical fundraising activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Background checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in the field of public relations and fund raising.
• Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 30 days of employment.
• Skills/Abilities: Able to speak, write and understand English; Computer proficiency with Microsoft products; background in fundraising and marketing; minimum 1 year of supervision.

Responsibilities

• Manage, direct, and coordinate the development function serving the Corps.
• Oversee foundation relations - donor development, capital campaigns, grant-writing, events, media opportunities.
• Advance development team capability and systems (donor relations, mail appeal, media campaigns, etc.).
• Manage mail appeals, campaigns, and coordinate with Divisional Development department.
• Plan fundraising event strategies with corps officers/leadership team and annual campaigns.
• Coordinate media and public relations outreach (print, radio, TV, service clubs, etc.).
• Manage special events; identify public relations opportunities; liaison to Advisory Board.
