Job summary

Autism New Jersey is seeking a Development Assistant to support the Development Director with administrative and programmatic tasks, donor stewardship, and fundraising events. The role is onsite, part-time (approx. 24 hours/week) with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities include gift processing and acknowledgments, donor communications, and maintaining donor records in the database. The role emphasizes collaboration with the Development and Operations teams and engaging

Responsibilities

  • Process and accurately record all gifts and grants received by the Development Department.
  • Manage the gift acknowledgment process, including preparation, editing, review, and distribution of gift receipts and acknowledgment letters.
  • Assist in the preparation of donor stewardship correspondence including acknowledgments, thank-you notes, meeting follow-ups, and impact reports.
  • Manage the tribute gift notification process, including tracking memorial and honorary gifts and ensuring timely notification to designated individuals.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of development-specific database entries and tracking: record donations, generate acknowledgments, run reports, and assist with database maintenance.
  • Assist in maintaining donor and prospect records in the database, including contact information, event attendance, giving history, and engagement notes.
  • In partnership with Operations, assist in reconciling development income monthly and annually.
  • Handle general correspondence, phone calls, and emails to development inbox and phone number.
  • Assist with development plan implementation including appeals, major donors, grants, partnerships, donor campaigns, and events.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of donor/fund records, reports, lists, and profiles.
  • Assist with planning and completing event tasks and support event committees and community events.

Development Plan
  • Assist with implementation of development plan and goals including: annual appeals, major donors, grant research and applications, corporate partnerships, donor campaigns, awareness programs, community events, and special events
  • Assistin the development and maintenance of donor/fund records,reports, lists,and profiles
Fundraising Events
  • Assist with planning and completing event tasks
  • Support event committees by attending meetings, note-taking, and assisting committee members with event outreach and solicitation efforts
  • Represent the agency at assigned community events
General Responsibilities
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with the agency’s Personnel Manual
  • Maintain all relevant professional standards including ethics and confidentiality
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Represent Autism New Jersey in the community where appropriate
  • Participate in agency events and other activities as directed
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Development Director and Executive Director
Notes
  • This is an onsite 24-hour per week position that is non-exempt from overtime rules. The work week is typically Monday – Friday 9am-5pm and subject to approval by the Executive Director. The schedule may occasionally include weekends and evenings and vary depending on the needs of the agency.
