Xcel Energy is offering an internship for engineering students to support the Monticello Design Engineering Team and Capital Projects. The role involves safety-focused tasks, site engineering document work, and integrating AI into design activities.

Ideal candidates are ABET-eligible engineering students who can work full-time during summer and part-time during the school year, with hybrid in-person requirements at designated facilities.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher.
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.
• Occasional travel to meet engineers & interns at downtown facilities or Prairie Island.
• Hybrid work policy requiring in-person commuting to designated location.

Responsibilities

• Work on industrial safety items such as shaft guards and platforms.
• Work on site engineering document change backlog.
• Improve reporting tools and integrate AI into design engineering activities.
• Support early screening of outage modifications.
• Engage in site troubleshooting and decision-making by researching operating experience.
• Research replacements for obsolete equipment.
• Update site calculations and lifecycle management documents.
• Endeavor software implementation.
