Job summary

HBK Engineering, LLC is seeking a Design Engineer in the Chicago area to lead subsurface utility, roadway, and drainage design efforts. You will draft using AutoCAD/MicroStation and GIS, review surveys, and perform field walkdowns with limited oversight.

You will mentor junior staff, participate in peer reviews, and help manage project risk and scheduling. Location options include Chicagoland or Greater Chicago Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 2.5+ years of engineering experience addressing site civil and subsurface utilities.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred; strong CAD/GIS skills.

Responsibilities

• Own all design lifecycle phases from init to closeout for subsurface utility projects.
• Prepare detailed documents using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS.
• Analyze surveys and client records to produce concise reports.
• Conduct field walkdowns and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Assist with scheduling, permitting, and plan reviews for code conformance.
• Mentor entry-level staff and perform peer reviews of designs.
• Communicate complex engineering concepts across teams and manage schedules.
