Job summary

HBK Engineering, LLC in Chicago, IL seeks a Design Engineer to support design, modification, and analysis of utility systems, municipal site work, and expanding solar/electrical projects. You will collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines on a broad portfolio.

You will own the design lifecycle from initiation to construction closeout, prepare documents with AutoCAD, MicroStation and GIS, coordinate with public works and DOTs, and travel 20–25% for field work and client meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• 2.5+ years civil site/roadway/utility experience.
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design engineering systems for Civil Municipal projects per specs and codes.
• Address complex electrical, structural, civil challenges with minimal oversight.
• Peer review Civil designs under professional supervision.
• Own design lifecycle from initiation to closeout.
• Prepare detailed documents using AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and asset platforms.
• Assess utility impacts and design reroutes around municipal roadways.
• Coordinate ROW, MOT, and utility permits with agencies.
• Analyze data from surveys, atlas, field sketches, and datasheets.
• Prepare reports meeting client requirements and manage project risk.
• Communicate engineering matters to management and field teams.
• Manage time to hit milestones; perform field walkdowns.
• Travel 20%–25% locally.
