Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer I to contribute to design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, and more. You will work with model coordinators, estimators, and field staff to create practical, cost-efficient designs while leveraging VDC and CFD insights.

The role focuses on delivering basic engineering deliverables, collaborating across disciplines, and growing professional expertise in a 100% employee-owned company with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree required.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design.
• Ability to read mechanical/plumbing plans.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with CADD and Microsoft Office including Excel.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare basic HVAC drawings, calculations, and specifications under supervision.
• Compute heating/cooling loads and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate design with project management, architects and trades through the completion phase.
• Perform and review CADD drafting work.
