Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer I in California to contribute to design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, and more. You will collaborate with model coordinators, estimators, and field staff to craft practical, efficient HVAC designs and associated drawings.

You will perform basic calculations, assist in coordinating design with project teams, and generate CADD drafts under supervision.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of HVAC/plumbing systems design.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel).
• Four-year degree required.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare basic calculations, drawings, and specs for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Perform basic HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing and selection.
• Coordinate design with project management, architects, and trades through completion.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
