Job summary

Southland Industries is hiring a Design Engineer I to transform engineering concepts into practical, cost-effective design solutions for healthcare, education, biotech, and commercial projects. You will collaborate with model coordinators, estimators and field staff to ensure designs are feasible and optimized for constructability.

You will perform basic calculations, assist in coordinating design efforts, and contribute to the creation of drawings and specifications under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• PE license preferred.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings.
• Proficient in CAD and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Produce basic deliverables such as calculations, drawings and specs for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Perform basic calculations (loads, sizing, friction loss).
• Coordinate design with project management, architects and other trades through project phases.
• Perform and check CAD drafting work.
