Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer I to contribute to design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, and more. You will collaborate with model coordinators, estimators, and field staff to develop practical, cost-effective designs using VDC and CFD tools.

Responsibilities include basic HVAC-related calculations, drawings, and specs, with supervision from Senior Engineers, and coordination with project teams through the full lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with CAD and Microsoft Office products (Excel).
• Four-year degree required.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce basic deliverables: calculations, drawings, and specs for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Compute loads, equipment sizing, friction losses for projects.
• Coordinate design with PMs, architects, and trades through design phases.
• Perform and check CAD drafting work.
