Job summary

Boulder Creek Custom Homes LLC in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking an Architectural Draftsman/Production Designer to turn concepts into permit-ready drawings and construction packages.

In our small design-build team, you will work closely with estimators, project managers, lead builders, and designers, visiting sites to take measurements and ensure drawings are practical for on-site construction. The role emphasizes attention to detail and CAD accuracy.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or certificate in Drafting, Architectural Technology or equivalent with 2–5+ years of residential/commercial drafting preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
• 3D modeling and rendering skills in Chief Architect are a strong plus.
• Basic to intermediate understanding of wood framing, building envelope systems, waterproofing, and construction sequencing.
• Attention to detail in dimensions, annotations and scale.
• Adaptability to wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced, small-office environment.
• Clear communication of technical concepts to clients, permit officials and site crews.

Responsibilities

• Drafting & documentation: Produce complete permit sets and construction document packages (floor plans, site plans, elevations, building sections, wall details, schedules, and electrical layouts).
• Design & concept translation: Convert client vision and hand sketches into accurate 2D CAD drawings and 3D models.
• Field verification: Visit job sites to measure existing structures, document as-built conditions, and verify critical site dimensions prior to design.
• Code & zoning compliance: Research local zoning ordinances, setback requirements, and residential/commercial building codes to ensure project compliance.
• Construction & trades coordination: Collaborate with estimators and field superintendents to ensure drawing details match budgets and construction methods.
• Permitting assistance: Submit permit applications to local building departments, track approvals, and address plan-check comments.
• Revisions & shop drawings: Process client redlines, structural engineer updates, and field modification requests promptly.
