Job summary

McKinstry in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Associate Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering and Design team. You will support Distributed Energy Resources (DER) clients and lead the delivery of high-quality electrical systems for building projects.

Lead design projects, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with internal teams and external partners to meet scope, schedule, and budget. You will develop standards, perform technical analyses, and ensure regulatory and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Professional Engineer registration required; licensure in additional states preferred.
• 8–10 years of Electrical Engineering experience in built environment.
• Experience with design and construction of commercial/light industrial electrical systems.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of electrical building systems including distribution, lighting, emergency power, and medium-voltage campus systems.
• Mentor and develop project engineers; allocate resources to optimize timelines.
• Develop and maintain technical standards; provide clear direction on requirements and deadlines.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to align scopes and solutions; coordinate with utilities and other disciplines.
• Oversee project planning, budgeting, and financial health to achieve milestones.
