Job summary

McKinstry is seeking a Senior Associate Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering and Design division in Austin, TX. You will lead DER project design and delivery, mentoring engineers and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality, sustainable energy solutions.

The role requires 15+ years in Electrical Engineering with DER emphasis, plus project and people management experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Professional Engineer registration and ability to acquire licensure in additional states.
• Experience in the design and construction of Commercial & Industrial PV systems, PV+Storage systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and Microgrid designs.
• Utility Scale PV system design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of arc flash, short circuit current, coordination, underground cable thermals, grounding, and load flow analysis.
• MV design experience (15 kV and below).
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train project engineers on DER design principles and technical skills.
• Identify and allocate engineering resources to optimize project timelines and meet deadlines.
• Conduct performance reviews aligning with project objectives.
• Lead design and implementation of DER projects including solar, storage, microgrids.
• Collaborate with teams and partners to uphold DER best practices.
• Oversee engineering analyses supporting pre-design efforts and sales proposals.
• Develop and maintain technical standards for DER projects.
• Coordinate with clients and utility providers for interconnection and regulatory compliance.
• Manage project budgets and monitor financial health across DER projects.
