Job summary

McKinstry in Charlotte, NC seeks a Senior Associate Electrical Engineer to lead DER design and delivery across solar, storage, and microgrid projects. You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with internal teams and clients, and ensure schedules and budgets are met while advancing technical standards.

This role requires PE licensure, 15+ years in electrical engineering with DER expertise; proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Procore; and strong collaboration across teams and utilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Professional Engineer registration and ability to acquire licensure in additional states.
• 15+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on DER.
• Project management experience: 5+ years.
• People management experience: 5+ years.
• Experience in the design and construction of C&I PV, PV+Storage, BESS, and Microgrid designs.
• Utility Scale PV design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of arc flash, short circuit, coordination, and load flow analysis.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train project engineers on DER design principles and technical skills.
• Lead the design and implementation of DER projects, including solar, storage, microgrids.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to uphold DER design best practices.
• Oversee engineering analyses to support pre-design efforts and proposals.
