Job summary

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) seeks a Deputy Director of Assurance and Oversight to lead safety assurance across the Engineering & Maintenance division. You will supervise safety investigations, hazard mitigation, field assurance activities, and performance monitoring while aligning with MBTA requirements.

You will collaborate with Safety, QM, ORC and Policy to drive data-driven safety decisions, develop annual strategies, and manage corrective actions and audits across E&M.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, public administration or related field.
• Five years of experience in safety management/field safety operations in a transit or similar setting.
• Two years of supervisory or team leadership experience with coaching staff.
• Experience leading investigations and root cause analysis with established methodologies.
• Experience performing field safety audits and job hazard analyses.
• Knowledge of OSHA, DLS, FTA, DPU regulations and applying them daily.
• Experience using data/trends/metrics to inform safety decisions and improvements.
• Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills across departments.
• Ability to travel throughout MBTA service area and respond to field locations; valid driver's license.
• Willingness to work various shifts and locations as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage and mentor safety managers and safety training activities across E&M.
• Provide leadership for investigations, hazard mitigation initiatives, and field assurance programs.
• Lead policy development, metrics, and communication for assurance programs.
• Act as lead in director absence and help set annual safety strategy.
• Drive safety improvement projects based on incidents, findings, or audits.
• Develop and mentor safety champions through training resources and coaching.
• Report data-driven insights and risk assessments to executive leadership.
• Oversee CAPs and Immediate Actions with regulators and MBTA entities.
