Job Summary
The Dental Assistant operates as an effective team member with dental clinic care providers and other support staff to provide quality dental treatment support, four-handed dentistry, oral health education, instrument repair and sterilization, facilities and equipment maintenance, and supply inventory & purchasing, in accordance with agency standards.

Preferred Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Dental Assisting program, or a foreign-trained dentist with at least one year of experience as a dental assistant, or a Dental Assistant with at least 500 hours of patient care in the past 12 months with verifiable on-the-job training.
Experience (Preferred)
- Customer service experience working with the public (1 year).
- Experience in a multi-provider dental practice.
- Familiarity with digital imaging.
- Experience with CDT-5 coding.
- Experience with healthcare information systems like EHR and practice management systems.
- Experience working with low-income, multi-ethnic populations.
Credentials
- Dental Assistant registration with the State of Washington.
- Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification, to be obtained within 45 days of employment.
Preferred Credentials
- Dental Assistant certification by DANB.
Job Functions & Performance
- Greet patients, interpreters, and visitors courteously and promptly.
- Assist patients with forms, verify information, provide pre-op and post-op instructions, and handle pre-authorizations.
- Coordinate with reception staff for interpretive services.
- Assist dentists in diagnosing dental problems and providing oral health education.
- Ensure timely delivery of fee slips and manage patient scheduling to maintain clinic flow.
- Perform dental procedures independently as allowed by Washington State Law.
- Take radiographs for diagnostic purposes following prescribed procedures.
- Assist in chairside dental procedures using efficient techniques.
- Maintain and organize operatories, sterilize instruments, and monitor supplies.
- Stay current with dental materials, procedures, and sterilization protocols.
- Follow inventory, supply, and purchasing protocols.
- Adhere to infection control and safety standards.
- Perform as a Dental Receptionist when needed and support other departments as required.
- Maintain consistent attendance for operational continuity.
