Job summary

United Nations Federal Credit Union in New York is seeking a Financial Services Specialist to safeguard assets by addressing early-stage delinquencies, negotiating payment plans, and coordinating with UNFCU attorneys on bankruptcy matters. This position is hybrid and based in NYC.

You will handle administrative processes for loan relief, deceased accounts, negative share accounts, and credit reporting, and collaborate across teams to uphold service excellence and accurate reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of delinquency control experience in financial services with admin duties.
• Knowledge of CFPB and FDCPA.
• Experience with collection procedures, bankruptcy code and regulations.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
• Experience with Fiserv DNA is a plus.
• Ability to extract, manipulate, and interpret data from multiple systems.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and relationships.
• Sound problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Uphold the organization's mission and service excellence through daily duties.
• Review, log, and respond to payroll clearance requests for separating members.
• Negotiate future payment arrangements and credit lines with departing members.
• Monitor accounts and final entitlements in the general ledger.
• Process deferments, payment changes, and disability payments for accounts.
• Monitor negative share accounts, charge-offs, and credit reporting.
• Submit and track disability insurance claims via ClaimVantage.
• Assign accounts to third-party collections or law firms and apply payments.
• Review bankruptcy cases, prepare docs, and liaise with attorneys.
• Maintain records in collection systems and manage account restrictions.
• Support member communications, prepare reports, and assist cross-team efforts.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support operations.
