Job summary

La Montañita Food Cooperative in Santa Fe, NM seeks a Deli Assistant Department Team Leader to oversee daily deli operations, mentor staff, and ensure exceptional customer experiences. You will manage product knowledge, pricing, and compliance while maintaining high service standards and safety practices.

Responsibilities include training, scheduling, inventory control, and collaborating with the Deli DTL to meet labor, margin, and sales goals.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three years in customer service.
• Two years in food service purchasing, preparation, or merchandising perishable products.
• Knowledge of products, pricing, merchandising and inventory management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to train others.
• Proficient math skills for financial performance and inventory control.
• Food safety certification; willingness to complete within 1 month if not certified.
• Ability to lead, prioritize, delegate and adapt to changes.

Responsibilities

• Under Deli DTL direction, ensure department operates effectively and meets standards.
• Develop, communicate, and evaluate operating standards; adjust as needed.
• Provide timely communication with Deli DTL about issues and opportunities.
• Supervise team performance and support performance management per policies.
• Model supportive leadership, teamwork, and motivation to reach goals.
• Create and facilitate trainings to build skills of team members.
• Ensure new hires are trained appropriately.
• Order, receive, and merchandise products following guidelines.
• Maintain knowledge of deli and non-deli items to assist customers.
• Ensure proper processing, packaging, labeling, dating and pricing.
• Create an welcoming environment and deliver excellent customer service.
• Adhere to all regulations for freshness, safety, sanitation and weights.
• Maintain ServSafe certification for staff and self.
