Job Summary

A Service Clerk (Deli) is responsible for providing excellent customer service and managing deli merchandise, including receiving, stocking, preparing, slicing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, rotating, and merchandising products such as deli meats, cheeses, salads, sandwiches, dips, and specialty items. It is essential to exemplify Pete’s Four Pillars of Value: Aesthetic, Quality, Customer Service, and Value.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Have a passion and extensive knowledge of deli items carried by Pete’s.
• Assist customers by providing expertise and guidance for proper product selection.
• Effectively operate and maintain deli equipment, such as electric slicers.
• Provide courteous, professional, and timely service at the counter.
• Adhere to sanitation requirements and regulations.
• Perform cleaning duties efficiently and timely.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 0-3 years experience in grocery, delicatessen, or retail
• Associate or Bachelor Degree in Retail Grocery, Hospitality, or Business (plus)
• Sanitation License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be 18 or older
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Effective communication skills
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work independently or in groups

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs. as required
• Work may involve temperature changes and various environments in the deli department
• Requires physical ability to perform duties including lifting, carrying, and interacting with customers and staff
