Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an undergraduate or graduate intern to join the Weapon Control Concepts Development Group in Laurel, MD. You will help conduct modeling and simulation analyses, identify gaps, and develop new system concepts for rapid prototyping of defense capabilities.

You will apply math, engineering, computer science, and physics to implement distributed algorithms, AI/ML techniques, data fusion, and advanced tracking for Navy, Missile

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale).
  • Working knowledge of computer programming, object oriented design, and Linux.
  • Knowledge/experience with MATLAB, C++ and/or Java development.
  • Desire to apply software engineering techniques to complex problems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date; U.S. citizenship.
  • Experience with Python, Unix/Windows systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and development related to U.S. Missile Defense systems.
  • Assist in development, testing and analysis of weapon control concepts.
  • Implement algorithms and model/sim components of systems.
  • Develop AI/ML-based concepts and technical solutions.
  • Apply data fusion and tracking concepts for object tracking applications.
  • Develop prototype capabilities and work with real-world systems for fielded transitions.
