Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD seeks an undergraduate or graduate intern to contribute to the Weapon Control Concepts Development Group. The role focuses on modeling and simulation analyses, identifying defense gaps, and creating new rapid-prototype concepts for U.S.

missile and air defense systems. You will apply math, engineering, computer science, and physics knowledge to implement distributed algorithms, AI/ML techniques, data fusion, and object tracking in support of

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or similar with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Working knowledge of programming, object-oriented design, and Linux
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB, C++, and/or Java
  • Desire to apply software engineering techniques to complex problems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and eligibility for Secret clearance

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development related to U.S. Missile Defense systems
  • Assist in development, testing, and analysis of new weapon control concepts
  • Implement algorithms and model/simulation components of systems
  • Develop AI/ML-based concepts and technical solutions
  • Apply data fusion and tracking concepts for object tracking and discrimination
  • Develop prototype capabilities and work with real-world systems
