Job summary

KBR Defense & Intel – Software Engineering Intern is a summer role offering hands-on work on radar/sensor data, image processing algorithms, and GUI tools. You will collaborate with engineers on real-world challenges across software, data analytics, and mission-focused projects.

Ideal candidates are rising juniors/seniors or graduate students pursuing software engineering or related fields, with strong Python and/or MATLAB skills and good math proficiency. Security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Full-time rising junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in Software Engineering or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis and basic algorithm development.
• Solid understanding of vector math, including dot products, cross products, coordinate transformations, and geometric projections.
• Strong problem-solving ability with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a technical team environment.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support analysis of radar, sensor, or similar system data, including preprocessing, noise removal, and feature extraction.
• Assist with simulation, modeling, or data-driven studies related to aerospace or mechanical engineering concepts.
• Develop, test, and validate algorithms that use vector math, including dot/cross products, coordinate frame transformations, and geometric projections.
• Perform basic digital signal processing tasks using MATLAB or Python.
• Contribute to GUI design or improvements for internal tools using MATLAB App Designer or Python frameworks.
• Document code, results, and methodology clearly for team collaboration and reuse.
• Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot software or algorithm issues and iterate solutions.
• Present progress in team meetings and provide written summaries of findings.
