DuTrac Community Credit Union seeks a debt counselor to assist members in delinquency with compassionate, compliant collections strategies. You will assess financial situations, arrange repayment plans, and coordinate with courts and creditors as needed.

The role emphasizes accurate record keeping, professional communication, and collaboration with internal and external partners to protect member interests and credit union assets.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of similar collections experience.
• Knowledge of lending processes is helpful.
• Very organized with strong record-keeping.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Contacts and counsels delinquent members by phone and mail to arrange repayment and bring current.
• Analyzes borrowers' financial situations to determine further action and potential collateral disposition.
• Maintains accurate files and uses the online system to keep data current.
• Coordinates bankruptcy claims, charge-offs, and any legal actions on delinquents.
• Communicates with financial institutions, repossession agents, attorneys and courts to resolve issues.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Contacts and counsels by phone and mail members who are delinquent in their payments; obtainssatisfactory arrangements and determines financial ability to repay; takes appropriate action tobring current, including recommending extension agreements.
• Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers to determine if further action is necessary toprotect the credit union against further losses; when other arrangements to bring the loan currentare unsuccessful, takes further actions, including the proper and legal repossession of collateral,maintenance, disposition of credit union collateral, and recommendations for charging off debt.
• Maintains accurate files and reports on all collections activity; utilizes on-line system to maintaincurrent data.
• Coordinates the processing and filing of bankruptcy claims, the collection of charge off accounts,and any legal action on delinquent accounts.
• Communicates with other financial institutions, repossession agents, attorneys, and the courts to solveproblems and collect delinquent loans. Testifies at legal proceedings as required.
• Has knowledgeof and follows credit union legal compliance and policies. Resolves credit reporting disputes.

Ideal candidates will have the following experience:

• One to three years of similar experience.
• Knowledge of lending process is helpful.
• Very organized and strong record keeping skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
