Responsibilities
- Assembles, installs, modifies, and repairs pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, backflow preventers, utility systems, disposal and sewage systems, water, waste vent and gas distribution systems, oil, compressed air, vacuum, grease trap and acid systems, cooling or heating water systems, drainage systems, hydrants, water closets, tubs, showers, faucets, sinks, hot water heaters, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, water softeners, fire sprinkler systems, and pumps according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Studies building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment to determine work aids required, and sequence of installations.
- Locates and marks pipe and pipe connection positions, cuts openings for pipes in walls and floors, using rulers, shop mathematics, levels, plumb bobs, and hand or power tools.
- Cuts and threads pipe with pipe cutters, torches, and threading machines.
- Bends pipe to required angles using pipe-bending machines or by hand over a block.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, traps, unions, and pipes made of various metals and nonmetals, using hand and power tools.
- Joins pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and adhesives.
- Fills pipe systems with water or air, checks for leaks over time using pressure gauges.
- Clears clogged drains with augers or hydrostatic equipment.
- Attaches fixtures and hangers to structural members.
- Complies with OSHA safety regulations and standards.
- Operates hoists, pulleys, and other equipment when handling heavy units.
- Uses MSDS to identify chemical characteristics.
- Completes work orders and timesheets accurately daily.
- Prepares material requisitions and assists with estimates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of commercial plumbing experience (excluding household plumbing).
- Graduation from an accredited Journeymen course with proof of continuing education credits.
- Utah Journeymen Plumber License and Utah driver’s license. A physical exam and respirator fit test are required within 30 days of hire. Utah Backflow prevention certification.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for at least 30 feet.
- Knowledge of the National Plumbing Code. Soldering skills may be tested.

- Lifts at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocates a 12-foot ladder unaided.

- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color perception, hearing, and communication skills in English.
- Uses ladders and tools safely within weight limits.
