Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, modify, and repair pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, backflow preventers, utility systems, sewage systems, water, waste vent, gas distribution, oil, compressed air, vacuum, grease traps, acid systems, water heating systems, drainage systems, hydrants, water closets, tubs, showers, faucets, sinks, hot water heaters, garbage disposers, dishwashers, and water softeners, fire sprinkler systems, and pumps according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Study building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan routing, placement, and operation of systems and equipment, determining work aids and installation sequence.
- Locate and mark pipe positions, cut openings for pipes in walls and floors, using rulers, levels, plumb bobs, and tools.
- Cut and thread pipes with pipe cutters, torches, and threading machines.
- Bend pipes to required angles using pipe-bending machines or by hand.
- Assemble and install valves, fittings, traps, unions, and pipes of various materials with hand and power tools.
- Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and adhesives.
- Fill pipe systems with water or air and check for leaks with pressure gauges.
- Unclog drains with augers or hydrostatic equipment.
- Attach fixtures and hangers to structural members.
- Follow OSHA safety regulations and standards.
- Operate hoists, pulleys, and other tools for heavy units.
- Use MSDS to identify chemical characteristics.
- Complete work orders and timesheets accurately daily.
- Initiate material requisitions and assist with estimates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with four years of commercial plumbing experience (excluding household plumbing).
- Graduation from an accredited Journeyman course with proof of continuing education credits.
- Utah Journeyman Plumber License and Utah driver's license; a physical exam and respirator fit test within 30 days of hire; Utah Backflow prevention certification.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for at least 30 feet.
- Basic knowledge of the National Plumbing Code; soldering skills may be tested.

Abilities
- Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
- Perform routine physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and overhead reaching.
- Have good vision (corrected if necessary), color perception, and hearing ability; communicate effectively in English.
- Use standard ladders safely while carrying tools.
- Recognize potential problems or issues.
- Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical solutions.
- Integrate information to form general conclusions, even from seemingly unrelated events.
