Overview
Lead Electrical Maintenance Technician is the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for all electrical work. Coordinates scheduling and execution of Preventative, Predictive, Corrective Maintenance, and Warranty work. Balances administrative planning, scheduling, and documentation with field work, acting as the first line of supervision for electrical crews.
Responsibilities
Ensures electrical maintenance is completed safely, on schedule, and according to manufacturer recommendations. Duties include:
- Installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components.
- Act as "Employee in Charge" on some jobs, ensuring efficient planning and safety.
- Perform other assignments as required, with some supervision.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and service documents.
- Maintain PPE, hand tools, and test equipment.
- Ensure personal and team safety by understanding and following safety policies.
- Identify and wear appropriate PPE for tasks.
- Adhere to SOPs and Switching Plans.
- Troubleshoot using digital multimeters, clamp meters, power quality meters, infrared scanners, and circuit tracers.
- Calibrate and commission protective relays.
- Verify control wiring points.
- Perform equipment switching, isolation, LOTO, zero volt checks, and grounding.
- Maintain and inspect high and medium voltage equipment, switchgear, transformers, and related systems.
- Possess knowledge of NETA MTS testing standards.
- Record test data accurately using Power DB and Maximo.
- Assist with startup services up to 138 kV.
- Conduct safety meetings and ensure compliance with safety policies.
- Maintain strong relationships with team and clients.
Qualifications
Must be capable of obtaining TS security clearance. Requires high school diploma or GED, with Electrical Journeyman license or related technical degree/certification (e.g., AS in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Controls, or NETA/NICET Level II).
- Minimum 10 years in facilities maintenance with electrical systems knowledge; 5 years in data center or critical environments preferred.
- Leadership skills for scheduling and executing work in dynamic settings.
- Proficiency in reading complex technical plans and diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA practices, and quality procedures.
- Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and estimate electrical system issues and needs.
- Organizational skills for workload management.
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and lift equipment over six feet.
- Compliance with licensing and certification requirements.
- Physical strength for lifting and exertion.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Abilities
- Lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot ladder unaided.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and balancing on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Perform physical activities like walking, climbing, lifting, crawling, and reaching routinely.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color perception, hearing, and communication skills.
- Use standard ladders without exceeding weight limits while carrying tools.
