Responsibilities
- Assembles, installs, modifies, and repairs pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, backflow preventers, utility, disposal, sewage, water, waste vent, gas, oil, compressed air, vacuum, grease trap, acid, cooling/heating water, drainage systems, hydrants, water closets, tubs, showers, faucets, sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, garbage disposals, dishwashers, water softeners, fire sprinkler systems, and pumps according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Studies building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan routing, placement, slope, and operation of systems and equipment, determining work aids and installation sequence.
- Locates and marks pipe and connections, cuts openings in walls and floors, using rulers, levels, plumb bobs, hand and power tools.
- Uses pipe cutters, torches, and threading machines to cut and thread pipes.
- Bends pipes to required angles using bending machines or by hand.
- Assembles and installs valves, fittings, traps, unions, and pipes made of various metals and plastics using hand and power tools.
- Joins pipes with screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and adhesives.
- Fills pipe systems with water or air and checks for leaks using pressure gauges.
- Clears clogged drains with augers or hydrostatic equipment.
- Attaches fixtures and hangers to structural members.
- Complies with OSHA safety regulations and standards.
- Operates hoists, pulleys, and other equipment for heavy units.
- Uses MSDS to identify chemical characteristics.
- Completes work orders and timesheets accurately daily.
- Prepares material requisitions and assists with estimates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with four (4) years of commercial plumbing experience.
- Graduated from an accredited Journeyman course with proof of continuing education credits.
- Utah Journeymen Plumber License and Utah driver’s license; physical exam and respirator fit test within 30 days; Utah Backflow Prevention certification.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds for 30 feet.
- Knowledge of the National Plumbing Code; soldering skills may be tested.
