Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is hiring 5 Structural Welders for the day shift (6:00 am – 2:45 pm) with a 45-minute lunch. The role requires SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW skills and the ability to read weld gauges.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years related shipbuilding/repair experience and the ability to access Navy installations with badges. This position involves welding various metals and following 5S standards in a highly controlled shipyard environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience.
• Knowledge of welding on HY-80 & HY-100.
• Proficient in SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding processes.
• Quality of welds must be acceptable for NDT.
• Able to read weld gauges.
• Able to use hand tools.
• Must know standard item 1689 and the guidelines of 5S.

Responsibilities

• Weld using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding processes.
• Read weld gauges and ensure weld quality for NDT.
• Work with various base metals including steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, and stainless steel.
• Set up oxy-acetylene torch and assist with pipe welds as needed.
• Follow 5S guidelines and maintain clean, organized work area.
