Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. in Norfolk, VA is seeking a 1st Class Structural Welder (2nd Shift) for Steel America, Job ID 1472. You will weld ship components, read blueprints, and uphold safety standards in a heavy industrial setting.

The role requires 5+ years in marine/industrial welding, proficiency in SMAW and FCAW, and ability to work extended hours with occasional travel. Onsite work and collaboration with multiple trades are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of welding experience in marine or industrial environments.
• Proficient in SMAW and FCAW; capable of welding steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong knowledge of welding procedures and safety standards.
• Capable of lifting heavy materials and working in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding using SMAW, FCAW, and other techniques on ship components.
• Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, and pre-heating as needed.
• Inspect welds to ensure compliance with standards and project specs.
• Repair damaged welds and perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Collaborate across trades to complete projects on schedule.
• Mentor crew members and support safety training as needed.
