Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA, is seeking Shipfitters for 1st shift (6 AM to 2:45 PM) with five openings. The role requires reading blueprints, understanding layouts of plates and pipes, and familiarity with ship nomenclature. Access to Navy installations via DBIDS/NAVSEA badges is required.

Candidates should have experience with tack welding, burning, and power tools, plus template fabrication and assembly of ship foundations and deck structures. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Be able to plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints.
• Be knowledgeable in layout of plates, pipes and structural shapes, including flat layouts.
• Know ship related nomenclature and locate structures in relation to frames and stringers.
• Know weld symbols and how they apply to material preparation for welding.
• Skills should include tack welding, burning, and use of power tools such as shears, saws, presses.
• Capable of making templates for fabrication and installation of ship structures.
• Able to assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structures.
• Familiar with 5S guidelines and standard items.
