Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, Virginia seeks a Second Shift Pipe Shop Foreman to lead a crew of 8–30 mechanics through production activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence while controlling costs. You will coordinate with the General Foreman and monitor progress on yard projects.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive ship repair knowledge, and experience with production planning, scheduling, and adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge in all facets of the trade relating to ship repair.
• Working knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.
• Proven leadership and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage manpower resources and schedule.

Responsibilities

• On-site deck-plate leader for the trade, supervising 8–30 mechanics and subcontractors.
• Plan and project manpower requirements; communicate with General Foreman.
• Review schedules and develop 1–2 week allocations; track progress with the team.
• Develop daily work assignments and expectations for the production workforce.
• Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
• Participate in daily production meetings and coordinate with other shops.
