Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Full-Time Day Patient Care Technician to provide compassionate bedside care, assist with daily activities, and support nursing staff. Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain concentration and performance under high levels of tension and stress.
• Ability to manage interruptions and variable noise levels while staying focused.
• Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in resolving problems.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage a high workload within limited time.
• Knowledge of procedures, equipment, software and standards related to patient care activities performed by non-licensed roles (PCA/PCR/PCI).
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.
• Ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
• Knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection of patients, self, and others.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, assist with baths, and provide clean linens and gowns to patients.
• Assist bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes to the primary RN or charge nurse to detect and provide rapid treatment.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and by staying within arm's reach during movement.
