Job summary

IU Health seeks a Patient Care Technician to join our hospital team as a bedside caregiver. You will assist with meals, provide drinks, encourage walking, help with baths, and deliver clean linens and gowns while maintaining a compassionate bedside manner.

You will support the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting changes promptly, using safety tools like gait belts and alarms, and staying by patients' sides during movement. This is a full-time night shift with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Requires Basic Life Support certification or willingness to obtain through IU Health PCA education program.
• Ability to provide patient care appropriate to age and developmental level.
• Knowledge of procedures, equipment and standards related to patient care activities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage high workload, distractions and stress in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of infection control principles and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, and encourage walking for patients.
• Assist with baths and provide clean linens and gowns.
• Support bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities promptly.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts and alarms and stay within arm's reach when moving.
• Adapt to a high workload while prioritizing patient care and safety.
