Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support patients at the bedside. You will provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, help with baths, and deliver clean linens and gowns.

As part of the care team, you will assist the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs, reporting changes, and helping maintain safety with gait belts and alarms while staying within arm's reach.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate care and developmental levels for patients.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures, standards, and patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage high workload, interruptions, and variable noise levels.
• Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
• Ability to read, perform basic math, and maintain attention to detail.
• Knowledge of infection control principles and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, and help with baths.
• Deliver clean linens and gowns and maintain patient comfort and dignity.
• Assist bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and close proximity.
• Support a fast-paced care environment with compassionate bedside manner.
