Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide exceptional bedside care in Bloomington, Indiana. The role includes assisting with daily activities, coordinating meals, mobility support, and maintaining patient comfort and safety.

The PCA supports the bedside RN by taking vitals, reporting changes, and following infection control practices, while using safety devices and remaining at the patient’s side to prevent risk during care.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires mental alertness and ability to withstand stress.
• Requires concentration amid interruptions and noise.
• Requires ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem resolution.
• Requires ability to set priorities and manage a high workload in a limited time.
• Requires knowledge of PCA/PCR/PCI care procedures and standards.
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
• Requires ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Requires ability to read and perform basic math.
• Requires ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
• Requires knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meals, encourage walking, assist with baths, and change linens and gowns.
• Obtain vital signs and report changes to the RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety with gait belts, alarms, and remaining within arm's reach during movement.
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered bedside care in a fast-paced environment.
