Job summary

Grant Thornton is seeking an Associate, Data Transformation & Governance to join the GTech team in Arlington, VA. The role focuses on embedding governance, quality, stewardship, and compliance into data transformation initiatives across both structured and unstructured content.

You will collaborate with data governance leads, stewards, IT, and vendors to ensure data migration, archival, and analytics enablement activities are organized and compliant with enterprise standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, data integration, records management, analytics, privacy/compliance, or related roles.
• Experience supporting data governance, data quality, data documentation, data migration, integration, archival, analytics, or transformation activities.
• Exposure to unstructured content environments (mail, file storage, collaboration platforms) in addition to structured data.
• Basic understanding of retention concepts, including retention categories and disposal.
• Awareness of legal hold obligations and why routine disposal must be suspended when a hold is in effect.
• Basic understanding of data governance concepts (ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, catalog, glossary).

Responsibilities

• Maintain data governance documentation supporting acquired-company integration, including standards, roles, ownership, stewardship trackers, escalation paths, and performance metric inputs.
• Support governance activities for data transformation initiatives (migration, integration, archival, reporting, analytics enablement).
• Assist with inventory of the data estate for acquisitions, capturing structured data plus mail, files, collaboration content, and business systems.
• Record content attributes in inventory (category, sensitivity, ownership, purpose, volume, disposition) and keep entries current.
• Prepare summaries for migration planning and assist with unstructured content reviews for regulated or client-confidential material.
