Job summary

SMX is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in support of a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The role focuses on requirements analysis, business process improvement, and data-driven decision-making to drive IT transformation and modernization.

Key duties include designing solutions with Databricks, evolving data models, promoting code to production, and building reports from ERP and legacy systems, all while collaborating across teams and maintaining DoD security

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance required.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 6 years of related work experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on development in Python and PySpark.
• Experience with Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipelines using Gitlab.
• Army functional knowledge and experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
• Familiarity with database design and architecture; relational and non-relational.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and participate in discussions.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture: AWS/Azure.
• Competence with software engineering tools and processes (estimation, issue tracking, version control, debugging).
• Proven ability to work independently without supervision.
• Proven experience in knowledge sharing (code reviews, solid documentation).
• Driven, self-directed personality; strong mission focus.

Responsibilities

• Design new solutions using Databricks to deliver capabilities meeting business functional requirements.
• Analyze & Design modifications to existing data model solutions as needed.
• Promote code into production.
• Define test cases and verify test results to ensure solutions are functioning as designed.
• Build data models and reports using datasets from ERP and legacy systems.
